The Toyota Supra is a renowned sports car and grand tourer that first entered production in 1978 under the Toyota Motor Corporation. The name "Supra" is derived from a Latin prefix meaning "above," "to surpass," or "to go beyond," which reflects the car's performance aspirations.

The Supra was initially based on the Toyota Celica but differentiated itself with a longer body starting in 1986 when it began to be marketed as a separate model. The A70 generation marked this separation, and Toyota dropped the Celica prefix from the model name. Over its production run, which spans five generations from 1978 to the present day, the Supra has gained a significant following and is often associated with performance and tuning culture.

The first four generations of the Supra, produced until 2002, were primarily assembled at Toyota's Tahara plant and the Motomachi plant in Japan. The fifth generation, produced since 2019, is assembled in Graz, Austria, alongside the BMW Z4, reflecting a collaboration between Toyota and BMW, especially in terms of engineering and design.

In terms of mechanical heritage, the Supra has strong ties to the Toyota 2000GT, especially with its use of an inline-6 engine layout. The first three generations of the Supra featured engines that were direct descendants of the Toyota Crown's and 2000GT's M engine. The branding and logos of the Supra have evolved over time, starting with a design derived from the Celica and moving to a new logo introduced with the A70 generation, which remained until the early 1990s.

The Supra's mix of performance, distinctive styling, and rich history has established it as an iconic model in Toyota's lineup and a cherished vehicle among automotive enthusiasts worldwide.
