The Hyundai Genesis is an executive sedan that was produced by Hyundai Motor Company from 2008 to 2016, spanning two generations. Initially introduced as a concept at the 2007 New York International Auto Show, the Genesis was officially launched worldwide (excluding Europe) in 2008, positioned as a "premium sports sedan." The development of the vehicle was extensive, with an estimated cost of $533 million.
The first generation, internally known as the BH model, was succeeded by the second generation (model DH), which premiered in Seoul in November 2013 before being showcased at the 2014 North American International Auto Show and the Toronto Auto Show.
In November 2015, Hyundai announced the establishment of Genesis Motor as a separate luxury division. Consequently, the second generation Hyundai Genesis was rebranded as the Genesis G80 in 2017, marking a shift as the Genesis nameplate gained recognition in the luxury automotive market. The transition reflects the vehicle's success and consumer acceptance, signifying a strategic move to enhance Hyundai’s position in the luxury segment. The Genesis G80 is a five-passenger, four-door sedan available in rear- or all-wheel-drive configurations.
