The Honda Civic is a highly regarded series of automobiles produced by Honda, having first launched in 1972. As of 2023, it occupies a middle position in Honda's global passenger car range, situated between the smaller Honda Fit/City and the larger Honda Accord.

The inaugural model, introduced as a two-door fastback sedan, was quickly followed by a three-door hatchback version. Equipped with a 1,169 cc transverse engine and featuring a front-wheel drive system, the first-generation Civic was notable for its efficient use of space, which made it remarkably roomy despite its compact size. It quickly built a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly, qualities that have remained hallmarks of the Civic name. Over the years, the Civic has also gained recognition for its performance-oriented versions, such as the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi, and Civic SiR/Si.

The Civic has seen various iterations and has been rebadged for different international markets. It has served as the foundational model for several other Honda vehicles, including the CR-X, CR-X del Sol, Concerto, first-generation Prelude, Civic Shuttle (which became known as the Orthia), and the CR-V, which is itself the precursor to the Honda FR-V.  With sales exceeding 28 million units since its inception, the Honda Civic ranks among the best-selling automobiles worldwide as of 2024, underscoring its enduring popularity and impact on the automotive market.
