The Infiniti G Line is a well-recognized series of compact executive cars produced by Infiniti, Nissan's luxury division, spanning from 1991 to 2016 and encompassing four generations. The initial models, known as the P10 and P11, were sedans derived from the Nissan Primera, offering a blend of style and performance tailored for the luxury market.
With the introduction of the third generation, designated V35, the Infiniti G models transitioned to being rebadged versions of the Nissan Skyline, a move that significantly enhanced their appeal in the North American market. The V35 generation also marked the beginning of a deeper association with Nissan's performance lineage. Following this, the fourth generation, V36, further expanded the G Line's offerings by introducing a hardtop coupe convertible variant, catering to consumers seeking both luxury and sporty aesthetics.
Both the V35 and V36 generations utilized the Nissan FM platform, which also supported iconic models like the Nissan 370Z and shared components with other Infiniti vehicles, including the M, EX, and FX. This platform underpinned the performance and handling characteristics that became hallmarks of the G Line.
In 2014, Infiniti revamped its naming structure, assigning passenger cars a "Q" designation and sport-utility vehicles a "QX" prefix. While the G Line was intended to be phased out in favor of the Q50, the G37 was ultimately rebranded as the Q40 for the 2015 model year, maintaining its legacy even as the lineup evolved. This transition reflects Infiniti's ongoing efforts to modernize and streamline its vehicle naming conventions while still honoring its established heritage in the luxury automotive market.
